Forest Management Assistance
Under an agreement with the Leelanau Conservation District and the Michigan Department of Agriculture, a forester works half time in each county to provide timber management and marketing assistance to private landowners. Working with MSU Extension, District staff also provides considerable assistance to homeowners and small landowners regarding tree insect and disease problems, and planting recommendations.
Groundwater Stewardship Program Agricultural
This program is funded through a state surcharge on nitrate fertilizers and pesticides. The revenues generated are used to help farmers undertake management changes that will reduce the threat of groundwater contamination on their property.

Invasive Species
During periods of high infestation the District's Gypsy Moth Coordinator administers all aspects of the County's suppression and education program. The Coordinator's responsibilities included egg mass surveys; notification of landowners regarding eligibility; marking of spray blocks; coordination of aerial applicators (contracted by the County); and conducting workshops and other educational activities for students and homeowners.
