Native Plant & Seedling Sale Volunteers

 

 

Position Title: Native Plant Sale Volunteer

Purpose: The position of Native Plant Sale Volunteer is a vital part of the Grand Traverse Conservation District in supporting the organization’s mission of inspiring exploration, appreciation and conservation of our natural world. The Native Plant Sale Volunteer partakes in an important annual fundraiser for the District that promotes conservation with local landowners and homeowners.

Location: The Native Plant Sale Volunteer works at the Boardman River Nature Center, located at 1450 Cass Rd., Traverse City, MI 49685.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist customers with questions during the Native Plant Sale.

  • Unload and pack up plants/containers as necessary.

  • Perform other duties as necessary.

Responsible To: Irene Stibitz, Community Engagement Coordinator

Time Commitment: At least one (can sign up for more) 3-hour shift during the Native Plant Sale (usually the third Saturday in May). Please check our calendar for the specific days for the upcoming sale and volunteer opportunities available.

Qualifications: Pleasant manner, patience, and dependability. Knowledge of Native Plants helpful, but not required.

Next Steps & Training: Please fill out the application and indicate you are interested in voluteering for “Native Plant & Seedling Sales.” You will then be placed on our email list and will receive an email for Native Seedling Sale Volunteer opportunities in March and Native Plant Sale Volunteer opportunities in April. We will also place you on our general email list so you will receive info on other volunteer opportunities throughout the year!

Training for this specific position will be provided upon arriving for your scheduled shift. In addition, staff will be readily available for questions and assistance.


 

Position Title: Seedling Sale Volunteer

Purpose: The position of Seedling Sale Volunteer is a vital part of the Grand Traverse Conservation District in supporting the organization’s mission of inspiring exploration, appreciation and conservation of our natural world. The Seedling Sale Volunteer partakes in an important annual fundraiser for the District that promotes conservation with local landowners and homeowners.

Location: The Seedling Sale Volunteer works at the Boardman River Nature Center in the Community Room, located at 1450 Cass Rd., Traverse City, MI 49685. Please note that while seedlings are in the room, the room is kept at 58 degrees for the seedlings, so dress appropriately.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Packages native tree seedlings into appropriate bundles for fulfilling orders.

  • Compiles seedling bundles into orders.

  • Assists with seedling sale pick-up and answering planting questions from the public.

Responsible To: Irene Stibitz, Community Engagement Coordinator

Time Commitment: At least one (can sign up for more) 3-hour shift after seedlings arrive from the nursery (typically a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in late April). Shifts are typically from 10:00am – 1:00pm and 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Please check our calendar for the specific days for the upcoming sale.

Qualifications: Pleasant manner, patience, problem-solving ability, and dependability.

A general orientation for all volunteers will be held each spring & fall.
